Guest Speaker
Being a guest speaker provides the opportunity to share your knowledge with the students in the 'classroom' setting. Class meets Monday-Friday, 7:30-9:00 a.m.. You are welcome to use the full 1.5 hours, or whatever best suits your schedule. No presentation is ever alike as we encourage you to show-up in the manner you are most comfortable in. This can include a formal presentation, round table discussion, workshop activities, casual conversation, etc. Not only do the students learn from the information shared, but they also learn from the individual style and mannerisms of each speaker. Coffee Talk
Coffee Talks are similar to the guest speaking experience, but with a strong focus on good ole' fashion conversion. This is an hour of candid, screen-free discussion, without the use of slides or formal presentation equipment. Students are asked to take notes on paper and be actively involved in the conversation. Topics can be outlined beforehand, or be completely off-the-cuff that morning. If you want to be inspired by exploring the minds of young entrepreneurs, while enjoying your morning coffee, then this is the perfect opportunity for you! Vertical Divider

Business Tour
Whether it is to prepare them for building their own brick and mortar or for that first day walking into a new job, exposure to a variety of workplace environments is essential. Business tours are an opportunity for students to physically see how businesses run and all the materials and equipment involved. From a copying machine to a multi-million dollar assembly line, all details are important. Tours are conducted during class time and vary in length depending on the size of the business and discussion/question time. |
Host Site
The startUP classroom is not your traditional school setting. It is actually conference and training rooms all across the county. As a host site you allow the students to conduct class onsite at your business for a determined time frame. Class may consists of student work time, welcoming a guest speaker, hosting mentors and more! All details of the class schedule will be approved by the host site in advance and all company policies are followed as students learn proper workplace behavior. Preferred room capacity is 15-20 people. Vertical Divider

Mentor
Each year students are paired with a mentor to assist in their quest to become business owners. This allows one-on-one coaching time by an experienced business person. Pairings take place in October/November through a matching event held during class. Meetings between student/mentor can be scheduled based on the needs of the student and availability of the mentor. These can be done in-person, over the phone, by email, etc. Mentors are required to complete a name-based background check, at no cost to the mentor. Vertical Divider

Investor
The startUP program is fully funded through the local business community. Being an investor includes a three-year commitment of $1,000 per year, with a total contribution of $3,000. All donations are tax deductible and are processed through The Maidez Center with the Regional Office of Education 45, as they are a non-profit 501(c)3 organization and serve as our fiscal agent. As an Investor, your name will be included on all startUP publications such as the annual report, event programs, program website with link to your site, and shoutouts on social media. You will also be invited to the annual Investor Breakfast and given first dibs on advertising opportunities for the class businesses. |
